I like to do abstract stuff when I want to experiment with some new medium or technique. That way I don't have to worry about getting a good likeness and I'm free to concentrate on the job in hand. I also use it as a way of loosening up. If I haven't painted for a while its great just to let the paint or whatever take me. Mostly they end up in the bin but sometimes if I like them I keep them. Here are a few I've kept.

Oil
This one took me by surprise. Its the only abstract I've ever bothered to get framed. |

Oil
I was experimenting with dry scrubbed in paint over an ochre background here.

Oil
This one followed from the previous one with some influence from Picasso. |
 |
Oil
This was inspired by sandy beaches. |

Oil.
I wanted to experment with pastel shades and greys in this one.. |

Oil.
I don't know what the hell was going on here. |
 |
Oil.
I was experimenting with grey again here. This is a very small painting.

Oil.
This was an experiment in using lots of earth colours. I put too much linseed oil in the medium and the paint has gone shiny. I'm not sure I like that. |
